DNA & health testing — no shortcuts, no mystery, no fluff.
“Health tested” gets thrown around a lot in breeder marketing. Here, we spell out exactly what we do, when we do it, and how that data lives inside our system for every pairing Phoenix is part of.
DNA testing — what we look at and why.
We use modern DNA screening tools to check for known hereditary concerns in the breed and to confirm basic traits like blood type. Exact panels can change as labs update their offerings, but our goals stay the same: reduce risk where we can and avoid obviously incompatible pairings.
- Screen for known breed-associated conditions when available through reputable labs.
- Confirm blood type so we can avoid mismatches in any potential future breeding plans.
- Store full PDF reports attached to the cat’s profile inside our CRM for easy reference.
DNA is a tool, not a guarantee. Clear results lower risk; they don’t make a cat “invincible.” We’re transparent about that from the start.
How DNA results shape our breeding decisions.
We use what we learn from testing to build pairings that make sense — for health, temperament, and type.
- We avoid pairings where two carriers of the same concerning trait would be combined.
- We balance color/pattern goals with long-term health priorities — health always wins.
- We log “do not pair” notes directly in the CRM so nothing relies on memory alone.
Veterinary care — from Phoenix to every kitten that leaves here.
Phoenix and any future breeding partners are seen regularly by licensed veterinarians. Kittens are raised under vet guidance with age-appropriate care before they ever meet you.
- Routine wellness exams and vaccines based on our vet’s recommended schedule.
- Weight checks, development monitoring, and early socialization notes recorded in our system.
- Kitten go-home folder including vet records, vaccine dates, and any relevant lab results.
We work with veterinary professionals; we don’t “DIY” medicine or cut corners to save a few dollars.
Basic timeline: what’s done before a kitten goes home.
- Birth–3 weeks: We focus on survival, nursing, and early development checks.
- 3–6 weeks: Handling, litter box training, and initial vet monitoring.
- 6–10+ weeks: First vaccines and follow-up exams as advised by our vet.
- Pre-go-home: Final exam, documentation prepared, individual notes updated in CRM.
Exact timing can vary based on kitten readiness and vet recommendations, but we will always outline where your kitten is in this arc when you reserve.
- Copies of relevant DNA and health records for Phoenix and/or the parents of your kitten when available.
- Printed or digital vet records for your kitten, including vaccines and exam notes.
- Clear explanation of what we guarantee in our contract — and what no breeder can honestly promise.
Full details of our guarantees and policies live on the Policies, Contract & Health Guarantee page. This DNA section is the “how” behind those promises.
